What's new
Netflix has shared a first look at images and announced the global release date for its upcoming Dutch true-crime drama, Toos: The Van der Valk Kidnapping. The project will debut worldwide on November 26, 2026. The premiere date was chosen deliberately, landing exactly 44 years after the real-life abduction occurred on November 26, 1982.
About the series
The series centers on Toos van der Valk, who helped manage one of the biggest hotel empires in the Netherlands alongside her husband, Gerrit. Her world was upended when she was taken, starting a 20-day ordeal that dominated national news coverage.
The narrative explores the high-stakes investigation and the emotional strain surrounding the event, detailing several key dynamics:
- Detective Cor Mulder takes an unconventional route by going undercover as "Cousin Cor" inside Hotel Nuland to stay close to the family.
- The kidnappers issue increasingly challenging demands while the Dutch government grapples with the consequences of offering a ransom.
- Toos struggles to survive while her family tries to hold together under intense public and private pressure.

Lies Visschedijk stars in the lead role as Toos, alongside Frank Lammers as her husband, Gerrit. The supporting ensemble features:
- Juda Goslinga as detective Cor Mulder
- Gijs Blom as Joep van den Nieuwenhuijzen
