The search for a new live-action Power Rangers adaptation has taken another turn. Following project cancellations at other major streaming platforms, reports indicate that Amazon is currently in unconfirmed talks with Hasbro to develop a fresh project for Prime Video, which could take the form of either a television series or a movie.

What's new

Recent developments highlight a bumpy path for the franchise's live-action screen projects:

  • A project in development at Netflix for over two years stopped moving forward in 2024.
  • Showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz were attached to a Disney+ reboot project reported in March 2025, but Deadline reported its cancellation in August 2026 due to high production budget costs.
  • Amazon is now rumored to be pursuing the brand, building on its existing ties with Hasbro that include a live-action Jem and the Holograms project and a Masters of the Universe film scheduled for a June 2026 release.

About the series

Originally launched in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the brand was acquired by Hasbro from Saban in 2018. Recent streaming releases on Netflix include Power Rangers Dino Fury, Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, and the 2023 reunion special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always. Beyond main live-action releases, the franchise has kept active through several initiatives:

  • A 4K remastered original series titled Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Re-Ignition released on YouTube alongside short clips.
  • The ongoing Power Rangers Prime comic series launched by BOOM! Studios in November 2024.
  • A new toy line licensed to Playmates that launched in fall 2025.
  • Past screen projects like the 2017 reboot movie, which grossed approximately $142 million worldwide on a $100 million budget.

What to expect

Because current discussions between Amazon and Hasbro remain unconfirmed, specific details regarding official cast members, plotlines, episode counts, or release dates are unavailable. Not specified in the source; please check the official notice. Until official statements are released by either company, fans will need to monitor for formal updates to see if Prime Video finalized an agreement.
