What's new

Episode 4 of the Korean medical drama Doctor X Mafia In White premieres today, October 17. The series, also known in some regions as Doctor X: Age Of The White Mafia, airs in South Korea on SBS TV at 9:50 PM KST. Audiences streaming from India can watch the new episode on Netflix starting at 6:20 PM IST on the same day.

The series will run for a total of 12 episodes, releasing new instalments every Friday and Saturday. If the current schedule remains unchanged, the show is set to wrap up its run on November 14.

About the series

Helmed by director Lee Jung-rim and written by Pyeon Seong-geun, the series is based on the Japanese medical drama Doctor X: Surgeon Michiko Daimon. Kim Ji-won stars as Gye Su-jeong, a highly skilled surgeon who refuses to compromise her professional standards. Upon joining Guseo University Hospital through a doctor-for-hire agency, Su-jeong finds herself navigating a work environment fraught with corruption, self-interest, and internal power struggles.

In addition to Kim Ji-won, the main cast includes Lee Jung-eun playing Jang Hui-suk, Son Hyun-joo portraying Bu Seung-gwon, and Kim Woo-seok as Park Tae-gyeong.

What to expect

Although the show continues to draw strong viewership ratings, it has faced criticism regarding its portrayal of medical procedures and emergency protocols. Viewers have highlighted scenes that appear unrealistic, such as an inguinal hernia being reduced successfully yet still leading to further surgery, as well as a multi-speciality surgical scene where a surgeon takes key decisions without sufficient input from other specialists.

While some viewers urge for greater accuracy in medical dramas, defenders argue that dramatic liberties are necessary to keep fiction engaging. As the story progresses, Su-jeong continues to treat patients while challenging the hospital's established practices and unyielding system.
