The animated universe of Night City has officially expanded with the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Produced by game developer CD Projekt Red alongside acclaimed Japanese animation studio TRIGGER, the sequel anime premiered on October 20. All 10 episodes are currently available to stream exclusively on Netflix, joining the original ten-episode season on the platform.
About the series
Moving away from the story of David Martinez, the new season introduces a different crew of mercenaries navigating violence and redemption in Night City. The narrative spotlights two main figures:
- Weak, a former cyberpunk legend who is struggling to find his place in a changing world.
- D, a dangerous nomad on a mission for revenge who unearths secrets hidden by powerful corporations.
The series features directing by Kai Ikarashi, with Kanno Ichigo serving as the lead character designer. Creative team members returning from the original show include Masahiko Otsuka and Bartosz Sztybor, who serves as writer, producer, and showrunner.
What to expect
In tandem with the anime release, CD Projekt Red launched Update 2.5 for Cyberpunk 2077 on October 22. The game update brings new features and items inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms. A release for the Nintendo Switch 2 will follow, though the exact date is not specified in the source; please check the official notice.
