Prime Video has expanded its global lineup with "Castle Walls" ("Surlar"), a two-episode Turkish historical drama created primarily through artificial intelligence. Produced by Ay Yapim via its Singapore-based subsidiary AI Yapim, the project stands as one of the first AI-generated scripted series to debut on a major worldwide streaming platform.
What's new
The historical show is currently streaming globally, including in the United States, with each episode running around 15 minutes. Beyond this release, Amazon has acquired an upcoming AI-generated spinoff film based on Ay Yapim's crime drama "The Pit" ("Cukur"). Titled "The Pit: Vartolu" ("Cukur: Vartolu"), the project explores the origin story of the character Vartolu.
About the series
"Castle Walls" focuses on the legend of Alamut Castle, a mountain fortress located in modern-day Iran that is also featured in the video game "Assassin's Creed Mirage." Production details include:
- Script written by Kerem Deren and Cisil Hazal Tenim, who previously collaborated on "El Turco."
- Developed over more than a year in partnership with creative technology company Hagia Labs.
- Utilized ChatGPT for creative development and prompt enhancement, alongside an internal storyboarding system.
- Powered by AYDNA, a custom video diffusion model trained solely on Ay Yapim's licensed library.
- Built shot by shot using inpainting for the first episode, followed by advanced generative AI tools for the second.
What to expect
While artificial intelligence was heavily involved in the visual workflow, the acting performances were not generated by AI, and human voice actors provided dubbing across every language track.
