About the series
Led by Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, the series follows an American diplomat serving as the ambassador to the United Kingdom. Her demanding career frequently overlaps with her volatile marriage to Hal Wyler, played by Rufus Sewell. Adding to the show's realism, scenes have been filmed on location at the U.S. Embassy in London.
Season four expanded the roles of Allison Janney as President Grace Penn and Bradley Whitford as First Gentleman Todd Penn, making both actors series regulars. The ensemble cast also includes Ato Essandoh as Stuart Hayford, Ali Ahn as Eidra Park, and Nana Mensah as Billie Appiah.
What to expect
The upcoming season will pick up after the major shifts that capped season four. During a G7 summit, Kate publicly resigned in protest against President Penn's aggressive actions. Hal, Billie, and other key officials walked out as well, creating a major political crisis in Washington and worsening diplomatic tensions with British leaders. Season five will chart the fallout of these resignations and the altered dynamic between the characters.
