Scholarship Overview
The Punjab government previously announced a performance-based evaluation initiative to assess over 60 universities in the province and identify the top 10 performing institutions. According to sources from the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), this project was estimated to cost Rs. 50 million. The annual rankings were intended to guide policy decisions and future institutional funding allocations. However, the provincial government has not yet published these rankings, evaluation criteria, university scores, or the names of the top 10 institutions.
In a separate effort, the PHEC approved key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the leadership of public university vice chancellors, accounting for differences in institutional size and age. This leadership evaluation covers several key areas:
- Research output and teaching standards
- Faculty development and student performance
- Financial management and governance
- Progress on development plans
