The CGIAR++ Science and Impact Hub has opened its 2026 call for applications for PhD scholarships. The programme plans to select 10 doctoral candidates to conduct research on key global subjects, including food security, climate change, rural development, biodiversity conservation, sustainable land management, and agricultural transformation. Selected candidates will enroll in a PhD programme at a German university while performing research connected to a CGIAR++ research centre.

The scholarship is open to candidates who meet the following requirements:

  • Possess a Master’s degree in Agricultural Sciences or a related discipline with an above-average final grade.
  • Demonstrate sufficient proficiency in the English language.
  • Meet the entry requirements for a PhD programme at a German university.
  • Establish a research project tied to an active CGIAR++ research initiative.
  • Form a three-way collaboration ("tridem") with a senior CGIAR++ scientist and a German university professor for joint doctoral supervision.

Applicants do not need to hold German citizenship. Candidates from CGIAR++ partner countries and female researchers are particularly encouraged to apply.

Benefits
